Why is Step MacAdam essential in professional lighting, and what are Caro SF's options?
Step MacAdam — or SDCM (Standard Deviation of Colour Matching) — defines colour consistency in LED lighting. It measures how much variation in colour temperature (CCT) may appear between different LEDs or production batches. The smaller the MacAdam Step value, the better the colour uniformity. One Step MacAdam is almost invisible to the human eye. At 2 or 3 steps, only trained lighting professionals may notice a slight variation. However, with 4 or 5 steps, visible differences in white tones often occur, especially when luminaires are installed next to each other. Lighting designers apply different MacAdam Step standards depending on the application:- 1–2 Step MacAdam — premium retail, galleries, museums, luxury hospitality
- 3 Step MacAdam — professional retail, offices, restaurants, hotels (Karizma Luce standard)
- 4+ Step MacAdam — technical lighting, outdoor, utility areas
